Design of warning systems for automated vehicles to support driver decision making

Because of the differences in what is required of the human driver in manual and semi-autonomous driving scenarios, designing a system to support human decision-making for semi-autonomous driving differs significantly from traditional warning systems. Our goal is to design systems to support driver decision-making, more specifically collision warning system design, for (semi-)autonomous driving scenarios. We evaluate the effectiveness of lateral auditory collision warnings as well as semantic warnings for autonomous vehicles.
